What does tap water contain?
Tap water in the UK contains several minerals and chemicals in varying amounts. The minerals calcium and magnesium are found in tap water in different quantities depending on where you live. These two minerals contribute largely to water hardness and the higher the amount, the harder the water will be. Sodium in small amounts is also present in tap water and trace amounts of other minerals can also be found. Chlorine is added to tap water during treatment to kill bacteria and other harmful microorganisms.
